Treating Asthma

How do you treat Asthma?

There are many different options and types of medicines that are used to help control asthma symptoms. There are those that are short-acting to be used when you require relief immediately, and others that are for more long-term relief or preventative. Some options you may discuss with your doctor are: bronchodilators that relax the muscles around the airways, anti-inflammatories to reduce the swelling and mucus production inside the airways such as corticosteroids or steroids, a combination of bronchodilator and inhaled corticosteroids, anticholinergics that prevent muscle bands from tightening around the airways, and/or antibiotics for flare-ups caused by bacterial or viral infections.
