Who gets Atopic Dermatitis?

It’s not quite clear who will experience Atopic Dermatitis. Some studies suggest that atopic dermatitis may run in families, and individuals that grow up in colder climates or in urban cities may be more likely. It can be related to a gene variation that affects the skin’s ability to provide protection from bacteria, irritants, environmental factors and allergens. Most commonly it’s due to an individual's atopy (genetic tendency to develop allergic diseases like hayfever, asthma, or eczema) along with a variety of triggers.
