Living with Ulcerative Colitis
How do you diagnose Ulcerative Colitis?
There is no single test to diagnose Ulcerative Colitis, and there are many symptoms which overlap with other health problems making it particularly difficult to diagnose. Ulcerative Colitis is most often diagnosed in late adolescence or early adulthood, between the ages of 15 and 35. In order to diagnose Ulcerative Colitis, a doctor will run a combination of lab tests, exams, and imaging studies to make a conclusion. Some of the things doctors will take into account when making a diagnosis are:
- Blood tests
- Stool Sample
- Colonoscopy
- Flexible sigmoidoscopy
- X-ray
- CT scan
- Computerized tomography (CT) enterography and magnetic resonance (MR) enterography
