Living With Vitiligo

How does vitiligo start?

The first sign of vitiligo is typically noticed as a small patch of skin that seems to have lost its color, or pigment. This is known as depigmentation of the skin. These small patches tend to be located on areas of the body that get ample sun exposure, such as the hands, arms, feet, lips, and face. Vitiligo often presents in people between the ages of 20 and 30, although it can show up at any age. Individuals of all skin types and colors can be vulnerable to vitiligo, but it may be more noticeable on people whose skin is darker in tone.
